Rise LC had a great second year in 22-23. We won some games, we learned some things, and now we’re building on those lessons as we approach 2023-24. Here are some updates about what you can expect from Rise LC.
First, what we expect we’ll keep the same:
- Single year-of-graduation teams as much as possible, with A and B teams when it’s feasible and appropriate for the kids.
- Lower-commitment fall season with Sunday evening practices in October and one-or-two tournaments in late October and/or early November (depends on age group).
- High-commitment summer season starting at the start of June and continuing into mid-July.
- Coaching staff that includes successful high school and college coaches, young college players whom we trust with our own kids, and successful youth coaches participating in our mentorship model. Our coaches are expected to improve their craft each year, just like our players!
- Developmental squad players – kids in whom we see potential to grow into club-level players who will work to improve their skills and hopefully earn tournament opportunities.
- Discounted tuition for all goalies and developmental players.
- Affordable, top-notch winter training for goalies and faceoffs, as well as continued position-specific training for these highly-valued specialty positions. Continued relationship with Lancaster Faceoff.
- Tryouts for the next year scheduled for immediately after summer season.
- No Rise LC winter training activities for non-specialists. Please channel your energy into winter sports and/or preparing your town team for its spring season.
What we’ll look to upgrade
- Re-emphasizing the commitment required to be high-performing teams.
- We will shift to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule to accommodate summer swim meets (Tuesday/Thursday).
- We will reset the standard for attendance: summer club lacrosse is for families that are willing to schedule vacations, camps, trips, parties, etc. for outside of the summer lacrosse season. We don’t want to lose anyone because of the high commitment level required, but we need to build teams of kids who can be there for each other 90% of the time or better. Repeat: lacrosse camp is not an acceptable alternative to club lacrosse practice.
- We need more time together with our teams before our first tournament, so we will hold a team camp week the second week of June. Sessions will be in the mornings before it gets hot out. Players who cannot make RiseLC team camp may not be included in the first tournament following camp.
- While the position-specific trainings were very effective, we’re going to shift most of the positional training time into the practice time, affording more time for team practice.
- We’ll aim to register for summer tournaments that provide all teams two seeded/competitive games on the second day of the tournament. We’ll also be crossing our fingers for no lightning delays and cancellations next summer …
- Costs of uniforms and payment processing fees will be included in registration fees.
These are items we’re sharing early so that our families can join us knowing the direction we’re going. We’re Rise LC. We’re going up. Come join us!
